Youth Protection

Youth Protection

The safety of the youth in the Scouting program is the primary concern of the BSA, Cornhusker Council, and Troop 55.

In order to ensure the safety of the youth, the BSA has developed a program of training which is required for all adult leaders. As of June 1, 2010, no adult will be allowed to register as a leader with the BSA without completing this training.

The Youth Protection training is available online through the http://www.myscouting.org website. The training takes approximately 30 minutes to complete and is valid for two years.

You must take the Youth Protection training to register as an adult leader, but you do not have to register as a leader to take the training. Parents are encouraged to take the training as well. Any parent who wishes to attend a Troop 55 campout will be required to take Youth Protection training.

To take the online training, follow these steps:

  1. Go to http://www.myscouting.org
  2. Create a MyScouting account, or sign in if you already have one. Registered leaders must sign in with their BSA ID number (found on your membership card) in order to have the training properly credited. If you need your number, contact Jim
  3. From the menu on the left of the screen, select "E-Learning"
  4. Under E-Learning course management system, select the "General" tab (if not selected already)
  5. Select "Take Course" or "Retake Course" next to "Youth Protection Training"
  6. When the course is completed, print a copy of the certificate.

If you have any difficulties or questions regarding the BSA's Youth Protection program or the training, please contact me immediately.
