Lewis and Clark Scout Camp

This year, Troop 55 has selected Lewis and Clark Scout Camp for our week-long summer camp. The camp is located just across the Nebraska-South Dakota border on Lewis and Clark Lake (Gavins Point Dam) and about 12 miles west of Yankton SD.

A lot of things will be similar to last year’s camp, but there are some important differences to be aware of at Lewis and Clark.

  • Merit Badges and other activities need to be scheduled with the camp in advance. The schedule of classes is in the leader’s handbook and will be made available to you. Please take your time in planning your events. There are two morning sessions and two afternoon sessions to choose from.
  • Lewis and Clark offers many merit badges not available a Camp Cornhusker. Make sure you check the listing rather than going off of what was offered at Cornhusker last year.
  • I am going to offer the second morning session as “Troop Time” in our campsite. This is an opportunity to finish up some rank requirements, do homework for other classes, or just relax. Feel free to include Troop Time in your schedule.
  • Lewis and Clark Scout Camp is located on a slope, the camp rises approximately 150 feet from the waterfront to the dining hall – a distance of about 1500 feet. This is a 10:1 slope and is steeper than it sounds. Allow plenty of time to get from one place to another.
  • There is no swimming pool at Lewis and Clark. Swimming is done in the lake.
  • Lewis and Clark has special programs that troops sign up for as a group. These include:
    • Troop Rifle Shoot
    • Troop Shotgun Shoot
    • Troop Blackpowder Shoot
    • Troop Archery Shoot
    • Canoe Breakfast
    • Kayak Lunch
    • Sailing Lunch
    • Sailing Overnight
    • Troop Climb
    • Challenge Valley Obstacle Course
    • Buckskin Outdoor Adventure
    • Fingerprinting Merit Badge
    • Photography Merit Badge
    • Leave No Trace
I would like to encourage one of the aquatic meals (Canoe Breakfast, etc.).
