Patrol Leaders Council

The details of the events scheduled in the Annual Program Planning Conference are filled in at the monthly Patrol Leaders Council (PLC) meetings. It is in the Patrol Leaders Council meetings that the actual work of running the troop is accomplished.

Topics for the PLC

The PLC is responsible for a number of decisions. Members should consider the following items each meeting. An individual item may not result in any discussion or action, but each item should be brought up every meeting.

  • Program planning (from the Annual Program Planning Conference)
  • Advancement needs
  • Special awards and ceremonies
  • Fund raising projects
  • Community service projects
  • Conservation projects
  • Special programs with the Charter Organization
  • Scout Sunday, Sabbath and Scouting Anniversary Week
  • Recruitment plans
  • Webelos graduation
  • Community events
  • Disciplinary issues

PLC Meeting Agenda

The PLC meeting should contain the following steps:

Opening And Call To Order
Start the meeting with a simple opening ceremony.
Patrol Reports
Each patrol leader gives a short report on the progress of his patrol. The report should include membership changes, advancement progress and anything the patrol has done since the last PLC meeting.
Old Business
Any discussion items left unresolved from the last PLC meeting are brought up again. Try to bring matters to a close by asking for a vote.
Big Event Planning
Review and discuss this month's Big Event program feature.
Troop Meeting Planning
PLC Members fill out Troop Meeting Work Sheets for all meetings before the next PLC. Assign responsibilities for tasks ensuring an equal distribution of responsibilities.
New Business
This portion of the meeting is devoted to items that were not previously on the agenda. The hardest part of the meeting is keeping the new business until the end. Try to be patient throughout the rest of the agenda.
Scoutmasters Minute
At the close of the meeting, the Scoutmast can share some constructive thoughts on what has happened and provide a sense of completion to the meeting.
